How To: Properly Engage Your Core

'Engage your core!' shouts the trainer from the front of the class... Problem is they haven't properly explained what that means.  Now you are standing there clueless not knowing what to do and consequently feeling foolish. 

Sound familiar? 

Properly engaging the abdominal muscles is one of the first things I coach my clients when I start personal training with them.  After all, once the core muscles are activated, the pelvis, spine, scapulars, shoulders, hip, knee and even ankle joints all have a much more stable platform to work from.  This means better exercise performance and most importantly, a reduced risk of injury and poor posture.  

In this weeks coaching video, I talk you through what the core muscles are and how to properly engage them. I also take you through some common mistakes people make and the benefits of being able to engage your core in everyday life and when exercising.  Check out the video below:
